It was finally their stop, when she got off the bus, she hugged Aaron one last time and walked toward the exit of the complex. She was glad that she knew how to cross the busy street right outside the complex because the lights only hit red at the same time at least once. Once they did, she crossed the street and turned left to go to her mom’s job. She wasn’t ready for that one because she doesn’t know why her mom wanted her to go to her job but she wasn’t going to question it.
“Look who it is? Little Jen is here, Jen.” She always hated that nickname everyone gave her because she did look like her mom but she didn’t want to be named her too. Every single one of her mom’s jobs called her ‘little Jen’ or ‘mini Jen’ and it was annoying. She gets the reminder from her own mom, she didn’t need it from others constantly.
“Hi Michael and Owen. Where is my mom?”
“Her usual spot, her desk. You know where it is?”
“Yes I do, thank you.” As she was about to get to her mom’s desk, she got stopped by her mom’s work friend Lily. She liked Lily, she was funny but she always made it look like she hardly works and leaves her mom to do everything. It was weird because Lily would look like she was doing a bunch of things but she wasn’t doing anything, she would always be drawing with Luna or asking Luna how her life was doing? While Luna would look at her mom swamped with work, she was always shocked how her mom could handle all the work and not snap at Lily for not helping her.
“Hi Lily, is my mom hiding back there?”
“No, she’s in a meeting right now but she told me to bring you to our section and have you start your homework.” Oh no, she didn’t think of homework when it came to all the craziness during the day. She was hoping that she mentally wrote it in her notebook but then it goes to the one class she skipped because of her freezing in time for herself.
“Okay, I can do that.” Luna sounded so unsure of herself even knowing if she had homework. She didn’t want to stay in school for this reason, why couldn’t Lily pick her up real quick? She would have been at her mom’s job since the morning, but if she did leave early she wouldn’t have been able to hang out with Aaron and wouldn’t have gotten his number. She opened her bag to look at her notebook. She was lucky because she mentally wrote all the homework down. She was just confused on what it all meant. Luna started working on her homework, trying to figure it out. Her mom came back to her section with a stack in her hands, she looked at Luna with a look of why are you here?
“Hi mom, how was your meeting?”
“It was fine, why are you here?” Did her mom get confused? She sent Luna a text saying to come to her job. Luna went to her phone to show her mom the text.
“You texted me to come here after school, so here I am.” She showed her the text that her mom sent her.
“Oh right, yeah you can stay I guess.” Wow, Luna felt wanted more than anything, she should have just gone home after all. She stayed in her seat and worked on all her homework, incorrect or not she didn’t care. Luna worked for an hour reteaching herself everything, luckily her notes were clear enough to do the homework. When it comes to the class she missed she knew she was gonna be in trouble for it but she did want to go home early today.
“Mom, can I go home before you so I can walk Chewie on time?” Liar! That’s not the reason but she needed to do some research.
“Sure, I’ll be home in 30 minutes anyway so get a head start. Did you finish your homework?”
“Yeah, it was a bit hard but I figured it out. Okay, I will see you at home.” Luna waved at Lily goodbye as well as Michael and Owen. She pretty much ran home because she needed more than 20 minutes alone in the house. She needed enough time to understand what anxiety is. Could it be the thing she had in the bathroom a couple months ago? Could she be suffering from it without even knowing? She turned a 10 minute walk into a 5 minute run. She felt her heart pounding but she knew what she needed to do and she was okay with running at this moment, she wished that she could get credit for this run for gym but she couldn’t.
