She waved everyone goodbye and she was just hesitant on going to rehearsal. She didn’t want to be there without Matthew especially because of Heather and the amount of favoritism for Heather.
“Look who decided to make her presence known to us.” Thanks Heather for making it seem like Luna couldn’t show up without an announcement anywhere.
“Hey, sorry I had to call my mom to remind her that I have rehearsal today and to not expect me home at my usual time. Did I miss anything? No, perfect!” That shut Heather up real quick, because it made Luna look responsible.
“Now that we are all here, let’s start with rehearsal. Sadly we had to remove Matthew from a solo, he can’t come to rehearsal consistently. So, I am going to give it to someone else. Who would want it?” Immediately Luna was upset that they were cutting Matthew’s solo. What was worse was that Mrs. Carrie is willing to give it up immediately.
“Mrs. Carrie, I think you should give the solo to Luna. She was bragging earlier that she can sing that part better than anyone else.” WOAH WOAH WOAH! No! No, she didn’t. That would be the worst kind of backstab to Matthew.
“Is that true Luna?”
“No ma’am it isn’t. I never said that line.”
“Well let’s hear you sing it now, because I know you can sing. Get up on the stage and show what you can do.” Luna truly didn’t want to get up on the stage, she didn’t want the solo. As everyone was singing their parts, it was slowly coming closer to Luna’s turn.
“We got a situation that we can't ignore/'cause ignorance is not bliss/we don't have to take this, no/with every big decision/comes an equally important share of the risk/we gotta take this.”
The song continued and Luna truly didn’t want to sound good. The song stopped.
“Luna, congrats you have the solo.” NO!
“Mrs. Carrie, I think you should keep the part for Matthew. What if I choke at the last second? Wouldn’t it be better to keep him as the part and I am his understudy?”
“I made up my mind, that’s it. Alright everyone let's start from the beginning of the show.” Luna got her phone out to text Matthew immediately. ‘im sorrie, mrs carrie gave me ur solo i didnt want it either,’ she sent that text so fast before anyone could say anything about it to him tomorrow. She looked at Heather who was grinning ear to ear which meant she was going to tell Matthew tomorrow that Luna did it on purpose. Luna got a buzz before she had to go on stage, ‘i believe u heather told me tht u wanted the part but i know thts not true...c u tmm,’ thank goodness. She didn’t want any issues with Matthew.
The remainder of rehearsal was smooth sailing, if anything Heather kept getting in trouble because she kept acting like it was the Heather show. Mrs. Carrie told her to blend with the other singers because she kept changing her notes to stand out. Luna tried her hardest not to laugh or smile because she knew that Heather would look at her everytime she got in trouble.
“Alright everyone, you guys did a great job today. Get home safely, and keep practicing at home. Luna, can you stay back for a second?” Ughhhh! She couldn’t get a break. She nodded to the question. As they watched everyone leave it was just Mrs. Carrie and her.
“Look, I know that you care about Matthew. I see you guys around school, you look cute together but he told me personally that he wouldn't be able to make the rehearsals for a few weeks. I was okay with giving you the solo because I know that he wouldn’t be upset if you got it unlike other people that hardly know him. If you want, you can have him as your understudy in case you do get scared on stage. I will be completely honest. I don't think you have stage fright, you look like you’ve been on stage your entire life. Am I correct?”
“Yes, I have been on stage since I was little with dance lessons from my cousin’s dance studio. I just didn’t want to get the part because Heather chose to lie about me doing something I never did.”
“I figured Heather was lying about that because you don’t seem like the type of kid to make someone feel bad or have a large ego. I have heard you singing around the hallways when you are going to your classes, you have a good voice but you humble yourself into thinking that you aren’t a good singer. I believe that you have a good voice and that you believe that you can get better which is understandable too. I just don’t want you feeling guilty for getting this solo. Okay?”
“Okay, thank you for talking to me about it. Have a good night.”
“You too.” As Luna was leaving she was waving to Mrs. Carrie, she got outside and she saw Heather waiting for her.
“Well well well, it’s little miss innocent, finally coming out of making herself look like America’s sweetheart. When are you going to drop the act that you’re sweeter than candy?” Fight her now? Or no? These are the best options she could think of.
“Heather, should you be getting home? It’s not safe to be out this late, plus we have homework to do tonight for class tomorrow. I hope you get home safely.”
“You’re so fake! You mess with everyone’s boyfriends, just like how you ruined that dude Aaron’s relationships and now you are taking Matthew from me! So, I will say this now and I won’t say it again, leave Matthew alone or else.”
“Heather…one, I am not scared of you. Two, I haven’t done anything to you or anyone else. Three, you have no idea what you are talking about when it comes to Aaron’s relationships, he is my friend and I care about him and if you don’t actually focus on the facts then you would have known that he broke up with them because they were always cheating on him with his other friends. Now that I have given you that statement, I say this again. I hope you get home safely. Good night.” As Luna walked toward the car, she heard Heather making a bunch of sounds that seemed like sounds of defeat. She knew that Heather couldn’t match up to Luna’s words.
