I Didn't want a Solo

After Christmas and New Years passed. Luna kept her distance from everyone, she stayed quiet during Christmas Day and New Years Eve. She couldn’t help but start crying during the countdown into the new year. Luckily, school was coming back fast. She got ready because she knew she had rehearsals for Camp Rock 2. She was glad she practiced during the break because she didn’t want to fall behind.
“Luna! I missed you so much!” The first person she saw was Aaron. She had not seen him since Officer Morgan and Collins were over at her house. Aaron picked Luna up and gave her a hug. She was a bit lighter since she went through a weird time skipping breakfast and lunch and just ate dinner. She hoped it would make her skinnier but it didn’t.
“Did you lose weight?”
“I don’t know, why?”
“You were a little easier to lift, but that could be because of how much I went to gym this break. I missed you so much and I know you spoke with Derek.” Right! Luna was dealing with so many issues that she forgot that she told Derek everything about what Aaron was doing.
“Oh, what did he say?”
“He told me to stop. He told me that you were hurt by my actions, and he said that if he finds out that I do anything else to make you cry that he would kill me himself. He also said that you are the bravest girl that he ever met, want to explain why he said that?”
“No, but look I am sorry but the feelings you have for me are not the same feelings I have toward you. I don’t see you that way, like you are good looking but not my type.”
“I kinda figured since the cop had to practically tell me to get lost. Why were cops with you that day? I have been trying to figure it out, and then hearing Derek calling you the bravest girl, I figured something was going on. Please tell me something about it when you are ready.”
“Thank you, but I am fine and I am not allowed to talk about it.” Which was a lie but she didn’t want any issues. She wanted to keep that situation to herself, especially since she heard nothing from her dad. She didn’t get a call on Christmas or New Years, she felt herself getting more heartbroken thinking about it.
As the day was passing, she was a bit quiet. Matthew and Marty both noticed, but she didn’t want to answer any questions they had. She didn’t speak in any classes. She looked at Sebastian only once, after that class Larry came over and hugged Luna.
“What was with the hug?”
“You look destroyed and usually you are happier in class so I thought a hug would help.” Wow, did Luna look that miserable right now? She just felt like she was just drained out for everything, while everyone was excited to see each other, she wanted to be in her bed. As she was walking to art class, she sighed with relief that she was almost done with school…OH NO! Rehearsal! She got into class and she saw Heather wrapped around a guy Luna didn’t recognize. She went over to her table with Penelope and Edith…and a random girl.
“Hey Penelope, hey Edith. And you are?” Since Luna forgot that she was the most ‘extroverted’ whatever that meant.
“Hi, I am Eva. I am new. I just started today. Your name is?” A new student in the middle of the school year. She couldn’t speak, her parents did that to her already. Fake a smile Luna, you are almost done with the day.
“I am Luna Ramos, this is Penelope,” gesturing to her right to Penelope, who was practically hiding her face in her hoodie, “and this is Edith.” gesturing across from her, Edith was looking at Eva as if she was analyzing her.
“Nice to meet you both.” Eva had this smile on her face that she was excited to make friends. While looking over at the guy that Heather was practically holding hands with, she didn’t even think.“
Who is that snake trying to love now?” Immediately regretting the words that came out of her mouth. She could feel her shock in her face, while she looked at Edith who was smiling with her jaw dropped. Luna wanted to run away at this moment, but she knew that wasn’t a good idea.
“Can I take a guess on who you are talking about?” No! Wrong idea.
“Not really.”
“But I can take a good guess on who it is.”
“Please Edith, no.”
“But Luna, we both know who you are talking about. You only call two people in this class snakes, and one of them has the new guy wrapped around her finger already.” New guy? When did we get a new guy? Then she remembered the day she stayed home, Lucy was talking about a new guy. That was him? Wow, he is cute looking. He has the cute Justin Bieber haircut and it was the perfect amount of bang in his face. He had a nice smile. What? Are? You? Doing? Luna? She knew that liking the same guy as Heather would be the worst.
“That’s the new guy? He doesn’t look special, do we have a name on the poor sap?”
“Everyone says his name is Paul.” Oh poor pathetic Paul. Heather is using him for his new popularity because he is new.
“Really? Paul…that is a plain name, but he looks nice. Has anyone spoken to him yet?”
“HA! Pass! Anyone that close to that snake can’t be talked to yet. You all of us knew that, why haven’t you spoken with him yet?”
“I didn’t know he existed yet, like I heard that there was a new guy and that a bunch of my friends from my bus thought he was cute but I have been so focused on some family issues that I didn’t notice him until today.”
“Yeah, he has been in school since December. Were you that focused on family that you didn’t notice him?”
“Complete honesty, yeah I didn’t notice him. I think he is another one of my classes but I don’t know.” As they were talking and having a good time, she forgot that Eva was there. She didn’t know who Eva was and who she was friends with already friends with?
“So, Eva. How is your first day going? Aside from us, have you made any friends?” Eva looked scared to answer that question.
“Oh well I met this sweet girl, her name was Natasha. She is in my math class. I also met a guy named Matthew. I met this cute guy named Julio, he had the cutest smile.” Oh no! Hopefully not her Matthew…that would not be good for Luna.
“Oh, is that the Matthew you met today?” As I gestured to Matthew who was looking over at Luna and smiled at her. She waved at him.
“Yeah, that’s him.” Crap! Okay that’s cool! That’s great!
“Wow! That’s good.”
“Yeah, but I didn’t like the girl that was next to him. Actually I think she is the girl across from him.” As Luna looked over to see who was across from Matthew, it was Heather. She might be saved after all. Luna could breathe again. As she looked up and saw Matthew coming over to her seat.
“Hey Matthew, what’s up?” He squatted to be at Luna’s level but he was a bit lower than he expected.
“Hey, I just came over to check on you.”
“Shut up, try again. Why did you actually come here?”
“Fine, you caught me red handed. I wanted to let you know that I won’t be able to go to rehearsal today.” No no no! Is he insane to be leaving Luna alone with Heather and all the chaotic music lovers? Like she is one of those chaotic music lovers, but she is a shy version of them.
“You are leaving me alone with them, plus you have to practice your solo. Why are you leaving me alone?”
“I’ll explain tomorrow but today I have to go home on time. I already told Miss. Carrie, she was a little upset but she understood that it was personal.” He didn’t even tell her what was going on with him. Luna was a little more concerned about him. He could tell, he lifted her head up a little.
“Everything is okay, I just have to take care of some stuff at home. Nothing bad happened, okay. So don’t give me that face.” He put his forehead against her forehead.
“Fine, but you are lucky that I trust you. You have explaining to do tomorrow.”
“So do you, we are even.” He got up and went back to his seat, she looked back at the table and they were all watching her.
“Stop staring, the show is over.”
“Is he your boyfriend?” Eva asked first.
“No, as Luna puts it they are just friends that do very couplely actions.” Edith immediately answered before Luna could speak. Luna was just impressed by the response she gave.
“Luna doesn’t have boyfriends, she just has close guy friends.” Even Penelope chimed in, it was actually the first time she spoke to Eva and it was about Luna.
“Wow ladies, thank you for making me look bad to Eva. To answer your question, no Matthew is not my boyfriend, he is one of my best guy friends. So both of you shut up.” Both Edith and Penelope started laughing because of Luna’s answers.
“Oh my god! I am so sorry! I didn’t mean to assume, it was just you guys looked so cute together. I bet you get that a lot.” Sadly, but she wasn’t going to say that out loud.
“I mean, we hear it often but not a lot. Now if you saw me last year, you would have heard the lovely rumor about me.” Eva looked confused by that statement. Luna didn’t know why she was telling the new girl the past, but for some reason Luna wanted her to know who she was sitting in front of. Not in a bad way…she hoped.
“Ohhh I forgot! Weren’t you dating an upperclassman?” Edith put the question out there.
“No, but that was the rumor. I was good friends with these two brothers, one in 7th grade and the other in 8th; the entire 7th grade thought my friend Aaron and I were dating because I was going through some issues within myself and I was helping him with his family issues. Everyone saw us together so much that they thought we were the cutest couple around.”
“But wasn’t he constantly taking your bag? And didn’t he fight some guy for you?” Wait, what? Who fought who? Where was that part of the rumor coming from? Unless it goes back to when Julio said he was jumped by Aaron, which again was odd since he was with me when the fight happened.
“What fight? Aaron didn’t fight anyone for me. Yes, he did take my bag because he wanted to prove that he knew how to be a gentleman.”
“Yeah, a kid got jumped on the last day of school. I felt bad for him because he still went to his last class since there was no point in going home when we were about to hit the last period.” Oh no! What did Aaron do? Wait! No! Not possible! Aaron was with her when the fight happened so it wouldn’t make sense for him to fight Julio when he was with Luna.
“Did you see who was fighting the mystery kid? Also why do you assume they were fighting for me?”
“The rumor was this 6th grader didn’t like that you were hanging out with a 7th grade player, so when he said something in front of the guy, the guy got his friends to jump him on the last day as a reminder that you were his girl.” Woah! Time to attack Aaron to make sure that this wasn’t true. If it was, she was going to kill him personally.
“Yeah, sorry to burst that bubble but that wasn’t true. The mystery kid was in my science class last period and he came in talking about 8th graders attacked him and destroyed his bag. I asked my 8th grader friend and he said he knew nothing about that but that he would ask around during the summer but there was no luck.” Cover some tracks, or at least try to.
“Wow, that's insane. So it had nothing to do with your wannabe boyfriend?”
“Sadly no because I don’t have a boyfriend.”
“So what was he to you?”
“Well, he is a close friend. We go on the same bus and live in the same complex. That is all I ever wanted to be with him, everyone around us kept thinking that we were a couple which made things weird for us sometimes.” Nothing wasn’t wrong, because it was all true. She hated it. She wanted to scream more than anything because she hated that this happened.
“That sucks that your friendship was made into a public rumor. I am sorry Luna.” Out of all the people around her, she never heard anyone apologize for believing the rumor or believed that she didn’t have a boyfriend. She hated it. She wanted to scream.
“I appreciate the apology, but I just want to move on from it all.” As she said that, the rest of art class went by without any issues. Eva was getting to know Edith and Penelope, time went by quickly. She didn’t want to go to rehearsal but she needed to go for her and Matthew. When the bell rang, she took her time packing up her stuff.
