Luna stayed hidden in Martin’s room 85% of the night until it came to dinner time. Luna wasn’t a picky eater unlike Kennedy who hated rice, which was bad in a Spanish household. So as Kennedy is fighting with Marc about eating the rice, Luna was quietly eating her food.
“So Luna, your mom says you’re in a school play.” Marc’s dad Juan decided to start the dinner small talk. Oh joy.
“Yes, my school is doing a Disney movie called Camp Rock 2. I am one of the main people in one of the numbers.”
“But you have no talent, so what do you do on that stage?” After the line was said, all she heard was a mini fight break out.
“MOM!”
“ISABELLA!”
“What? It’s a serious question to ask, I know Luna has no talent so what exactly does she do?”
“No mom, you need to apologize. You know Luna can sing, I even asked if you wanted to come with us to her chorus final exam at the beginning of this year but you said no.”
“But I did nothing wrong.”
“MOM! Apologize now! Jen already told you that Luna has been through a lot recently and you choose now to make her feel worse.” Luna wasn’t going to deny that this moment didn’t make her happy. She wasn’t used to Marc defending her to his mom, usually he would blame Luna to make things easier for his mom.
“Fine, I’m sorry Luna.” How…insincere.
“Luna, you were saying.” Juan chimed back knowing that he was asking me questions.
“Well…I am in one of the numbers and we have to learn the dance moves which I will admit I have been practicing more to make sure I get it right for rehearsal when we go back to school.” This was the most Luna had spoken at their house. She looked over at Isabella and she could tell that she wasn’t a fan of Luna speaking. Isabella had a look of annoyance that just made Luna feel completely unwelcomed. As Luna’s mom always told her, kill people with kindness.
“Thank you for dinner, it was really good. I will be in Martin’s room watching a movie.” Luna put her dish in the sink, took a water bottle from the fridge and started walking toward the room. She stopped at the table and hugged both her mom and Marc, she needed to show that she appreciated the fight back. Once she got to the room, all she heard was Spanish which meant that Isabella didn’t want Luna knowing that she was talking about her. Luna decided to stay out of Isabella’s sight because she was tired of arguments because of her.
