“Janice! Stay off the chairs!” Raina was screaming at Janice for climbing the stools to the high table. Luna was constantly watching Janice climbing things that Raina didn’t want her on, each time it would get worse for Janice on the punishment scale. Luna hated watching what would happen to Janice, the way Raina was with Janice showed Luna how she never wanted to be toward Kennedy.
After 10 minutes, Luna was watching Janice starting her journey again up the stool. I was shocked that Janice actually made it to the top of the stool and sat calmly against the wall. Luna was proud of Janice for making it to the top with no help, but not great for her because she watched the next moments happen in slow motion.
“Janice! Get down now!” Raina pulled Janice off the stool by her arm and dropped her onto the floor. Raina called Lucas over for some odd reason. Clearly Luna didn’t know that Lucas was supposed to be watching Janice. Raina pushed Lucas against the wall and started hitting him for not “focusing on his sister.” Luna never understood what was this teaching either of them, how was it going to teach Lucas to focus on his sister or keep Janice off the furniture? Luna hated seeing this scene because it felt like if she said anything out loud, she would have also gotten hit but at the end of the day, Raina knew the minute she would have touched Luna. Luna would have told her mom and that would be the end of Raina completely. The amount of violence in one mother was terrifying, she hated the idea of a mother that would be this violent toward her own children. Luna watched and questioned if Raina even liked her kids or she liked the idea of being a mother and wasn’t ready, Luna didn’t know and honestly she didn’t want to because she was no longer in life.
Throughout this entire scene is playing, she is seeing Janice on the floor crying, Lucas bruised up on his right cheek which meant that he would have to try and hide it when he goes out with his friends. She remembered how her dad reacted when Luna told him everything, he said to not get involved because that was the way she disciplined her children.
