Pain Strikes

As the weeks went by, Luna kept her head low. She went to school the next day after the chaos and did the dance audition, she immediately got told that she was going to be in the school. Luna couldn’t tell if she got into the show out of pity or because they needed more minorities. She took it as a win for herself.
“Ready for Christmas break?” Matthew constantly asked Luna that question as time slowly crept into December. She didn’t want to deal with Christmas without seeing her dad.
“Not really? Me and Christmas don’t see eye to eye.”
“Well, I think you are going to have a good Christmas break. Make sure you practice the song and dance for the scene.” Both Luna and Matthew were put in the same scene but Matthew was given a solo. Luna wasn’t upset about it because he is a guy and they didn’t have many guys in the scenes.
“I don’t want to practice without you. You are my partner. Can’t you swing by my apartment complex and we practice together?” Luna gave him all the puppy dog eyes she could give. They became closer as time kept going and they both relied on each other when it came to things going on in each other’s lives. She appreciated him the most.
“You know that I am going out of town this Christmas break so no.”
“I know but I was hoping the answer would change. Clearly it didn’t.”
“Yeah no, we are going to a mini ski resort. I am excited because I am going to see snow for the first time. Have you seen snow before?”
“Yes, I lived in New York during the winter time. I don’t see the big deal.” No lying. She appreciated that she didn’t need to lie to Matthew.
“I forget that you used to live in New York.”
“Oh sorry, is it because I don’t have that thick New Yorker accent. The ‘hey I’m walkin here’ accent.” After she said that with her Brooklyn accent, both her and Matthew were laughing because she hardly shows her accent. Luna didn’t believe she had a New Yorker accent since she doesn’t stay in New York for that long.
“Do you want me to bring you back some snow then?” Luna looked at him with the funniest face and shook her head because she knew that by the time he got it back to Florida it would be a puddle which would make him sad.
“Nah, I don’t want dirty water in a jar.” He looked at her confused until he understood what she meant. She just laughed at him as they were walking to class and they bumped into Aaron. She looked at him and kept walking.
“Wasn’t that your friend?”
“He is just some guy that lives in my neighborhood.” She chose to keep Aaron out of her life for a while. After the last conversation they had, she couldn’t handle him anymore. He knew how she felt about him but he still had this idea that they were going to get together. She cared about Aaron but that was it, she couldn’t care about him anymore.
“He isn’t some guy, when you stayed home he came to all your classes to get your homework. What’s going on between you two?”
“Fine, Aaron isn’t just some guy but with what’s been going on between us, I am making him some guy. Aaron started crushing on me last year when I told him several times that I only saw him as a friend. I told him that I didn’t want to be with him like that, over the summer to prove that I didn’t like him like that I kissed him to prove that there was nothing between us. Well the day that I stayed home, he decided to tell me that he wished that we could kiss again after telling me that he and gf had just broken up. Since that talk, I haven’t spoken with him. I kept my distance because I am not in the mood to deal with all of that.”
“Luna, you have an interesting life.”
“How so?”
“There is just always something going on in your life, it’s interesting.” Not the reaction she was expecting but she took it. They kept walking to class knowing that she just told Matthew all of that and he didn’t have any questions. They walked in silence which was odd for Luna.
“So Aaron isn’t your boyfriend?”
“What? No, is that what he told you when I told him to ask you for my classes for my missing homework?” She never actually asked Matthew how Aaron approached Matthew that day. She didn’t think about it until now.
“No, more like we all assumed because he showed up almost always at the end of each class. He just sounded scared for you because you don’t miss school, I figured it had to do with the meltdown you had the day before but I didn’t want to ask what was going on.” Wow…wait a minute! Who is we? There shouldn’t be a we in that sentence, all Luna could think about was what was Aaron saying to them when he saw them.
“Matthew, he isn’t my boyfriend. We were friends but after recent events I am choosing not to be his friend anymore.”
“What happened, I know something happened because you like taking your time getting to your bus recently.” Luna didn’t like talking about that moment, she hated the fact that Aaron wanted to use his friendship to try and ask for a kiss from her. She hated it more than anything.
“Something happened, I just can’t talk about it just yet. It angers me and it pushes me to a spot where I want to punch Aaron in his face with everyone watching. When I am ready to tell you, I will tell you.” She was glad she said it like that, she didn’t want to talk about it yet.
“How about this, you tell me when we come back from Christmas break? I want to make sure that you have enough time to go through it all.” Seems reasonable.
“Fine, I can work with that.” After that line, Luna and Matthew were chill the rest of the day, no more questions about her and Aaron. Luckily, she didn’t see Aaron for the rest of the day. Luna was glad about that because she didn’t want to see him like that, she was tired of problems between her and Aaron. Time passed by so fast that she noticed that school was almost over. She was calm the entire day, she wanted to stay this way for the rest of the year. Art class came and went, she didn’t want to get on the bus. She didn’t know what she was going to do at home with Kennedy or worse, if she was going to be bored everyday like the summer. She got a text from her mom after class, ‘come to my job when you get off the bus.’ That’s not a concerning text from her. She chose to sit in the front of the bus for the first time, everyone was confused but said nothing, Luna looked like she was on a mission when she knew she had to go to her mom’s job she didn’t want to get seen by anyone.
