When the bus pulled into the complex, she could see why she was told to go to her job. She saw her dad waiting outside her apartment. No! He knows that he isn’t allowed to take her this Christmas break. Luna got off the bus last, said bye to all her friends and Aaron was making sure she got off before him. She got off and she turned immediately out of the complex.
“Luna!” She turned around immediately and put her finger on her mouth to shut Aaron up. She gestured for him to go over to her.
“Don’t say my name. I cannot be seen not yet.”
“What’s going on? You sat in the front, spoke with no one, and practically the last one off the bus.”
“I don’t know what is going on but I know that my dad isn’t supposed to be here, yet he is and my mom told me after class to come straight to her job. So, please don’t walk past him and if you do and he asks where I am, you can say I went home early. Make up a lie, I don’t care but do not say I am home. Do you understand?” Aaron nodded and then walked back into the complex like nothing happened. He walked the opposite way of his apartment just to avoid her dad. Luna practically ran to her mom’s job, she got there fast and sweaty.
“Why is dad outside the apartment?” She didn’t say hi to anyone, she needed answers.
“He is still there? I told him when I saw him there during my lunch that he isn’t taking you this Christmas break. The fact that he is still there means we are waiting until Marc comes and gets us.” This is truly serious if Marc has to get involved.
“Can’t I just tell him to go home?”
“No Luna! You are not your father’s keeper and right now he isn’t listening to what I am saying so he doesn’t get to see you. I am not going to reward him for this kind of behavior and neither are you. Marc will drop Kennedy off here real quick, swing by the apartment, if your dad is still there Marc will handle it.” Marc is gonna handle it? No offense Marc, but what is Marc going to do? Sternly talk to her father and tell him to leave?
“Okay” Luna watched time go by and she saw Kennedy come into the office. Which meant Marc was swinging by the apartment. Dad, please be gone! Luna couldn’t handle the stress that was about to happen.
30 minutes later. Her mom got a call from Marc.
“Come on, Marc is outside.” Luna was so scared about what happened within those 30 minutes. When they got into the car, she could tell something happened from Marc’s expression.
“What happened?” Her mom was also worried about the expression on his face.
“I called the cops.” WHAT!
“The cops! Marc, why did you call the cops? Blake isn’t that bad. Did he do something?” Luna agreed with her mom about her dad.
“Well he decided to threaten me for protecting Luna and you from him and then threatened you as well. I called the cops in front of him so he would leave and I watched him get into his car and leave the complex and waited another 10 minutes to make sure he didn’t come back.” Woah, woah, woah! Her dad, the big idiot, threatened Marc and mom…wasn’t his best decision but okay.
“Blake threatened you? Is he insane, that’s not going to look good for him if anything happened.” Luna felt like she wasn't meant to be hearing all this but here she was listening to her dad being a bad guy and trying to hurt her mom and Marc.
“I don’t care if he is sane or not for this but the cops will be swinging by in 45 minutes to take statements.” That was the moment Marc made eye contact with Luna in the back and he could probably tell from her facial reactions that she wasn’t happy about the whole thing and that she wished she wasn’t hearing all of this conversation.
“Luna, I am so sorry but you will have to talk to the police as well since you said you saw him when you got off the bus. We will have to discuss with the police everything that has been happening. I know your dad loves you but at the end of the day, he wanted to hurt us.” She didn’t want to talk to the police, worse she didn’t want to talk to them about her dad and how he was acting with everyone.
“Okay”
“Don’t be scared, we will be by your side while they talk to you. You won’t be alone with them” She was more scared about what was going to be asked.
“I’m not scared about talking with them, I am scared about what they are going to ask me?”
“Don’t be, the police are going to help us with this whole thing. Don’t feel like you have to protect your dad because he is your dad. He is doing all of this to himself, just like how when you were lying you would get punished, you did it to yourself. Your dad needs to be punished for what he is doing wrong.” She knew her mom wasn’t wrong but she just hated that she had to speak to the police at the start of her Christmas break. No normal fun times like her friends were having. She hated it. She hated that she was dealing with this. She wished she was going to a ski resort with Matthew and Marty.
“Okay, I will tell them everything.” Luna just wanted these moments to go by as fast as possible. She didn’t want to get her dad in trouble but at this point, he did it to himself now. Time went by so fast and the next thing she knew there was a knock at the door. Let the stress begin.
