“I did because he is making her cry out of stress because he isn’t eating, he isn’t sleeping well or that he can’t talk for long because he doesn't have enough minutes. She gets off the calls with him and she feels guilty and worried about him, and I am tired of it, he shouldn’t be doing this to his daughter.”
“Well, hopefully it’s over.” Luna and her mom knew it wasn’t over because her dad was a child most of the time.
“Hopefully, because I don’t know what we are going to do if this gets more out of hand. Luna, when you go to school tomorrow make sure you get all your missing homework.” Really mom? Randomly bringing up homework.
“I actually messaged my friends to get my homework since I wasn’t going today.”
“Oh, which friend did you message?”
“Aaron, I told him to meet up with my friend Matthew and Heather since we are in the same classes in a sense. He is going to put all my homework under the swing, Matthew already told me which classes probably won’t have homework and which will. So I should be all set.” Look at Luna being responsible. She just didn’t want to deal with another issue.
“Okay good. I am glad you have friends that are willing to help you out. You and Aaron? Should I ask about that one friendship?” NOT AGAIN!
“He has a girlfriend, she is really pretty. He sees me as a younger sister since he is older than me, by 8 months I think.”
“Oh, okay. I just wanted to know.” Luckily, nothing was wrong about that statement. She did wish she was able to hang out with Aaron more but she knew she couldn’t.
“If you want to leave to meet up with him and your other friends you can. I don’t want you just staying here if you know you have homework coming your way.”
“Okay, school is right now in 4th period. I would be at lunch with my friends.” Right after she said that, she felt a buzz in her pocket again.
She looked at her phone to see a text from Matthew, ‘how u feeling??? we r missin u 2day’ who was the we?
‘hey, i am ok went with my mom 2 work…whos we???’
‘me, marty, the girls, some random dude asking for ur classes didn’t know u were this popular luna :D’ She couldn’t help but smile and laugh. She knew that the random dude was Aaron. She was ready for school to be out so she could go see Aaron.
‘that random dude lives in my complex, he is getting my hw wouldnt say he cares’
‘idk he sems 2 care bcause i am seein him everywhere treat him nicely gtg lunch is done’ reading Matthew’s messages about Aaron was unsettling. She knew that Aaron was sweet, but she also didn’t want him doing this because he thinks that he has a chance with her. She would hate to let him down again. She didn’t want to be one of those girls.
“Aaron is going to be my death.”
“What?” Luna didn’t realize that she said it out loud. She forgot that she wasn’t home alone. She didn’t know how to explain that statement to Lily and her mom.
“Sorry, Aaron is just being weird to all my friends. He is making sure he has the correct classes and annoying Matthew.” Lies, but she couldn’t say why he would be her death.
“Well, make sure he gets his homework as well. I don’t want him missing his classes for you, he is a good kid for you.” Good kid? Really, that’s the words she is going to use? Okay…okay. No! Luna couldn’t stand that, so she chose to get up and stretch her legs so she wouldn’t say the one line that would change her mom’s perspective on Aaron. That good kid and her daughter kissed less than 6 months ago.
As time passed, Luna was just focusing on the stuff she brought with her to her mom’s job. She wanted to finish all of it without having to worry about it, which was hard because Luna forgot to bring the little stuff. She wanted to work on her art project, she was doing a scene from her favorite movie Spaceballs. She was drawing the scene when they were looking for the princess but they were looking through the movie itself. She could see Lord Helmet looking at Spaceballs VHS Tape from Mr. Rental. Luna knew she was going to be questioned why she chose this scene, but she actually had a good reason, but she was missing colors for the other tapes on Mr. Rental. She decided to work on the essay that came with the scene.
“Mom, can I borrow a pen?”
“A pen? You sure you don’t want to start with a pencil and then rewrite it in pen?”
“No, I already know what I am going to write.” Her mom and her had a deal for her essays, she would write it first in pencil and go through all the grammar errors and misspellings and then rewrite the finished version in blue or black pen. Every time Luna was turning in any essays, the teachers would assume Luna had an older student help her with the essays and she would have to explain that her mom has a specific system for her when it came to writing. Her mom’s rule for writing was “anyone needs to be able to read your writing.” She hated the rule but it was helpful for Luna to make sure that she could write neatly.
“Okay, just don’t mess up and no scribbling out words or misspelled words.”
“I know and I won’t.” She did know how she wanted to start her homework but she also knew it wasn’t homework related. She wanted to write a letter to her dad telling him how she feels about every situation that he had ever put her in. She took the pen from her mom, she got started and immediately went down a hole of writing. She didn’t want to stop, she wanted to make sure everything was out of her head from the Christmas issue to this funeral situation to the pain from dealing with Rania. Luna couldn’t help but wish she could show this to her mom but she knew she couldn’t. She felt a buzz in her pocket.
It was a text from Aaron, ‘b glad we r friends bc u have a lot of hw’ She saw that text and she couldn’t help but blush that he got all of her homework.
