Things Happen...I Guess cont.

Which meant something was going on and no one told her. Luna went around the office to say hi to everyone before she went to her mom’s desk area. Everyone still called her mini Jen, she still hated it.
“Hey little miss hooky, what are you doing here today?” Lily was always happy to see Luna, Lily made Luna think of Kennedy’s godmother Iris, bubbly and happy all the time.
“I stayed home today because things are going wrong, but I didn’t stay at home alone so I came here. Hope that’s okay with you?”
“Of course, it’s okay with me sweetpea. Let’s get you settled so when your momma comes back she can just focus on work.” Luna knew that her mom wasn’t going to be focused on work after the phone call she was having outside. She felt her phone buzz from her pocket.
It was from Aaron. ‘ur lucky we r friends, u have alot of hw.’ Oh no, Luna forgot that Aaron was bringing her her missing homework but he can’t do that while she is at work.
‘haha, can u leave my hw under the swing? Im not home right now’
‘where r u? y arent u home??’
‘i went 2 my moms job so i wasnt alone’
‘ok good i will put it under the swing upstairs’
‘tnk u!!! u the best :)’ Luna appreciated Aaron and Matthew for making her feel better about missing one day of school. She couldn’t go to school knowing everything that happened yesterday. She saw her mom come back inside, she did a small smile which was Luna’s way of knowing that her dad was still annoying her.
“Hey Jen, you okay?” Lily, don’t ask her that question, she knew that her mom was ready to snap at the first person to annoy her.
“Luna’s father is testing my last nerves and my patience. I told him that she wasn’t going with him this winter break after the chaos he is creating for himself since he still is unemployed so what would he be doing with her. I already know what he will do, he will take her to her supposed godmother and then have Luna lie to me about it. I just skipped the headaches and said no to winter break for him.” Nothing about what she just told Lily was wrong, but she didn’t say that Luna didn’t want to go with him to make sure that dad didn’t think she hated him or anything close to it.
“I’m sorry mom, he usually doesn’t act like this.”
“Do not! I repeat, do not take responsibility for his behavior! He is a grown man, Luna! He should know better!” There was the snap, her mom could tell that she hurt Luna by saying it like that.
“Luna, I’m sorry but you shouldn’t feel like you need to apologize for your father’s behavior. He is acting like this because of the fact that I told him no for the funeral and no for last night’s new dinner.”
Lily chimed in, “What do you mean last night’s new dinner? Did he swing by without letting you know? Can he do that?” Luna stayed quiet and just focused on her coloring for art class while also listening in to the adult conversation.
“Yes, Luna texted me saying he was outside when she got home from school. That’s why I left work early yesterday because he wanted to talk about taking Luna to her grandfather’s funeral after I had already told him why I said no, then he was like can I take Luna out for dinner; which pissed me off more because I knew he wouldn’t bring her home. I knew he would take her to dinner near Tampa so I said no to that too. He had a tantrum that I am keeping his daughter away from him, so I said no, you are pushing her away and if you don’t fix your life she won’t want you around anymore. That’s why Luna is home today, she didn’t want to go to school and he would try to pick her up from school early and take her.” That wasn’t the reason she wanted to stay home but she would rather have her mom think that’s the reason.
“Can he do that? I thought you said he owes 5 months of child support.” 5 months! She thought it was like a month missing…then again her dad has not been working for awhile so it makes sense.
“He does, but I am not going to be that woman to hold my kid for the money. I hated those kinds of women in my neighborhood and I told myself that I would never be that kind of woman, if Luna wants to see her father she can, if she wants to talk to him she can, I am not going to stop her from having her father in her life. I will draw a line when he chooses to take advantage of my kindness which is right now. Luna shouldn’t have to be in the middle of this but she is and it’s not fair to her when she doesn’t know all of it. He is whatever. I told him to figure out his life before he calls to talk to Luna.”
