Going back in time was Luna’s biggest fear, because she never knew where her mind would take her. She turned around to see where her mind took her to. All she saw was darkness. She looked harder and found a door with a dim light over it. Luna couldn’t see anything inside the door. She took one step inside.
That was when it started.
“Luna! Luna! Where is that stupid girl?” Luna can see Raina. She looked like she was only five months into the pregnancy. Luna could tell what the flashback was. She didn’t want to be in this moment. She wanted to run away, but she knew that wasn’t how her mind worked. She knew she had to go through the entire scene and see what she could have done differently.
“You called my name? I was in the bathroom showering. Is everything okay?” Luna could feel her heart breaking, remembering the little details. Seeing Raina’s tight outfit because she thought she could pull it off even after being five months pregnant.
“I don’t care where you were. I called your name. You should have come the first time.” Wow, just remembering this scene was making Luna’s blood boil over. She knew that once she came out of the scene, she was going to have a horrible mood for the rest of the day.
“I’m sorry, but what’s wrong?”
“You didn’t clean the kitchen. You were told to do that earlier, and you didn’t do it. Should I tell your dad that you aren’t listening to me… again?” Now, she definitely remembers this scene. Luna remembered that when Raina told her to clean the kitchen, it was after she said that she smelled like she hadn’t bathed in a week. Raina told her this while Luna was trying to read for her summer reading.
“Sorry, I will get right on it. I just had to finish my homework or I will get in trouble at home.” Right after Luna said that she could tell what was going to happen next, but she couldn’t bring herself to stay in that scene long enough to witness what she did. She knew she would not get out of the scene that easily.
As Luna was walking past Raina. Raina tries to threaten Luna by hitting the wall extremely hard. She was worried that she was going to get hit by Raina. Her dad had one rule for every lady he dated: don’t touch his daughter. Clearly, Raina didn’t get that memo.
“I don’t care. Your homework isn’t your first chore. You aren’t smart, so stop acting like you are. You are a stupid little girl that doesn’t know right from wrong. If you were my kid, I would have already smacked your smart remarks out of your mouth. Now, get cleaning.” It terrified Luna. She was already worried that she was going to get hit by this woman, but now she was more concerned that she was doing all this hard work to be called stupid. After they said the line, this was the moment Luna had the chance to change what happened next.
“Okay, sorry.” Luna wishes she knew then what she knew now. She wanted to call Raina out for so many things. The main one would have been about her creepy son, Lucas. If Luna remembered the next scenes correctly, a bad thing happens. She hopes she is wrong.
