When Luna was in fifth grade, she was having difficulties adjusting back to a school she went to in third grade. After a year of torture that she had to endure, her brother, Joseph, told her some simple advice: “Don’t fear anyone. That gives them power.”
This was the year in Luna’s life, where she was paranoid to the point of breaking down every day. She was constantly looking around, thinking about who was going to bully her this time.
That was when she saw Oliver Price. Luna had known Oliver since third grade. She wanted to run into his arms and tell him everything that had happened. Clearly, Oliver didn’t notice her the way she did, since he walked right past her. Luna was counting on Oliver to be her first friend back in this school.
Luna bumped into Oliver by accident. “Sorry, Oliver,” she said nonchalantly. He knew she looked familiar.
Oliver just said, “It’s fine… Luna.” Woah! Does Oliver remember Luna?
Once he said her name, let alone knowing that he remembered her name, stunned her. That was when Joseph’s advice came into Luna’s head.
Luna didn’t know what else to say but… “You should move out of the middle of the hall, unless you want to constantly fall down on your face.” No one expected Luna to say anything like that, not even Luna, and she was the one who said it. There was no taking it back now, so all she had to do was hope that Oliver would reject her friendship for good.
“Listen girlie, you just got back to this school… you need a friend and it won’t be me, happy?” For someone who was already forgiving Luna, he was being a massive jerk. He is the same age as Luna, and she is more likely to kick him where the sun doesn’t shine to prove her point. She turned a blind eye and got off the floor.
“Look, I’m sorry, Oliver. I should watch where I am going. I guess since I don’t have a friend in this school, I don’t remember where I can go. Then again, you never cared about me.” After saying that last line, Luna felt the knife in her heart twist, but what she said affected Oliver. He looked hurt, and that was her plan. She walked back to her classroom. All she could think about was how she just told her first friend off because he was being a jerk. Yet that jerk stole her heart for the first time in their timeline of love and hate.
