This year flew by, Luna couldn’t stop thinking about how the end of the year was already there. She was thinking about everything happening and how she needed to be better at controlling her own emotions. She was thinking about how she made some good friends. She did lose some friends, throughout the year but she figured that it was going to eventually happen.
“Luna, where is your head at dummy?” Aaron said to her in her face. She did work things out with Aaron because he had seen her cry one too many times that if she let him go, he would use her issues against her or worse make her look horrible to people.
“I am just thinking about how this year went.” She could feel her emotions hitting her harder today, she didn’t like it. She went to math, still thinking about how the year went by. She saw Oliver. Her mind shut up and told her, KISS HIM! When Luna thought about it, she thought it would be best to stay friends because she couldn’t handle having a boyfriend while figuring out what was going on with herself and her brain. She sat next to him and just put her head on his shoulder without saying anything.
“You okay girlie?”
“Completely honest, no. I don’t want to do anything this summer but I might be going up to New York. I love my grandparents, but I just wanted to stay home this year. You know what I mean?” He was looking at her to make sure she wasn’t crying, but she wasn’t. She looked at everything with a drained facial reaction. She didn’t want to be in school today, she wanted to spend her last day of school in bed.
“Girlie, just tell your parents you don't want to go to New York this year. I know that you went last summer as well because you love seeing your family in New York. Is something else going on?” She doesn’t know what to say to that question because she wants to say no and tell him that she is sorry for letting him think that they were going to get together, she wanted to tell him that she wished that she could date him but she knew she couldn’t do it.
“No, that’s it. They haven’t said I am but they kept making it seem like I am going again. Last time we went, they moved us to a new place. I just don’t want another move without knowing about it.” She wasn’t lying, but she wasn’t telling him everything that was going on with her. How could she, she didn’t want to break his heart, she couldn’t. She wished she could explain why she didn’t want to date him, because it wasn’t his fault. She knew it wasn’t his fault, it was her own fault.
“If anything else, let me know. I know that I haven’t been there for you like that but I am here for you always and forever.” He looked at her eye to eye, they were so close; she wanted to kiss him but she couldn’t move. She froze, she didn’t like this feeling. She didn’t understand why she didn’t like to be that close to Oliver. She could feel her heart beating as fast as a rock song. She didn’t know what to do so she poked his face away from hers.
“Thanks, but I think it’s just that right now. Any plans this summer?”
“Spending it with my grandparents here in sunny Florida.” He sounded somewhat defeated about going to their house, everytime he spoke about his grandparents he was always happy talking about them. What made this time different? She wanted to ask but she didn’t want to push herself into that conversation without having an actual way of helping him through it all.
“That sounds like a fun time, is this the same grandparents where you learned how to tap dance?”
“Yeah, those grandparents. It’s going to be fun until I want to come home and I can’t because I look rude.” Luna could understand where he was coming from, she was glad that her dad taking her for the summer wasn’t an option. She wasn’t in the mood to deal with him especially because he hasn’t spoken to Luna since Christmas break. She wanted to scream at her dad the most because of that.
“Well, if anything, you have my phone number, you can always give me a call and we can chat the day away about everything.”
“I might take you up on that offer. I’ll see you in our next class.” She didn’t realize that class was over.
