Back to school…Luna didn’t know what she was going to do about Oliver and her anymore. She wanted to be with him, but she was scared. Scared of what will happen when they end up together. After being away from Joaquin, she realized she didn’t have a crush. It was just knowing that he was nice to her, it was a nice change for Luna. Since all the guys in Luna’s life, except Sammy, make rude jokes so when she met Joaquin and he actually chose to be nice and not mean it made her happy. She was just glad that she had more friends. While Luna was figuring out what to wear to the first day back, she remembered that Aaron told her that they will be playing manhunt in the morning waiting for the bus but the rule was when the bus got there someone had to scream “BUS!” Just so no one could miss the bus.
While on the bus, Luna sits with people, she isn’t alone anymore. She sits with Lucy or Jessica sometimes all three of them sit together laughing and joking about someone falling while Aaron is in the back seat being a clown. He was funny though, because we would all watch the bus drivers' reactions.
“Well if it isn’t my favorite girlie, are you still mad at me?” Was Luna ever actually mad at him? She just wished that she could just say ‘Let’s be together!’ She knew she couldn’t just say that.
“No, I’m not mad at you anymore. I am sorry though. Sorry that I put you in this spot, you shouldn’t be having to question if I like you more than other guys in my life.”
“I was never worried about that, I just hated that in science you would hardly look at me because of him.” Wow, she didn’t know she was doing that, she didn’t realize how her actions were hurting him.
“Well, I will fix that starting today.” She wanted to kiss him but the math teacher came in to start class. Luna’s brain was in a haze, she was going through the day without using many words. She was watching people walk past but she felt like she was stuck.
“Breathe and take one step forward.” She heard right behind her. She was scared of who was behind her, it was Aaron.
“Jesus dude! Gave me a mini heart attack.”
“You looked like you were scared about something and you’re currently late for whatever class you have right now.”
“How? The bell just rang to be let out.”
“That was 10 minutes ago, I saw you when I first got out but I didn’t see you moving so I asked to go to the bathroom to see you still not moving. Everything okay?” That’s a good question Aaron, a great question if anything. She didn’t know what happened. She has zoned out before but this was the worst that she lost track of time. She’s already 10 minutes late to class, she didn’t want to walk into the classroom and be stared at.
“If I am completely honest, I don’t know if I am okay. I thought I was already in class but clearly I am still here. I think I am going to head to the nurse’s office.”
“Let me take you, it gives me a reason to stay out of my class longer to help a sick girl to the nurse.” Luna rolled her eyes because she was the sick girl, but she was worried about everything because she didn’t know what was going on with her. She couldn’t be stressed, this is the first day back and she had finished all the homework the first days of the break. Was she worried about her and Oliver? Was she overthinking everything? As she started asking all these questions to herself, she started crying.
“Oh god, are you okay? Are you actually hurt and you didn’t tell me?” Aaron…you’re an idiot!
“No, I just need to stop for a second.” Luna bent over as she couldn’t stop crying at this point, all she did was gesture to Aaron to hug her. As she was hugging him, she was holding her hands tightly. He didn’t let go or ask anything, he just stayed that way for a minute. Luna let go of him, she checked to see if she left anything on his shirt. She didn’t.
“Sorry, I don’t know what happened but thank you for the hug. I can walk myself to the nurse’s office.”
“No, you don’t get to break down and cry and hold me for comfort and not tell me what is going on. We are friends, dummy!” She wasn’t expecting Aaron to say that.
“How about this, I will tell you later. I am going to ask my mom if I can go home because I am not okay up here.” As she said that, she pointed to her head.
“Fine, I will bang on your door when we get back to the complex because you scared me just now.”
Luna walked to the nurses office alone because she felt bad keeping Aaron out of class. She got into the office and asked if she could call her mom real quick.
“Mom?”
“Luna? What’s wrong? Why are you calling me?”
“Something’s wrong, I can’t focus. I have a huge headache, I feel sick. I stood in a hallway for 10 minutes straight without noticing it. Can I please come home early?”
“Luna, take a painkiller and go back to class.”
“Why should I go back when I just said I can’t focus? I just broke down crying for no reason and you don’t think I should go home?”
“No Luna, no one can come and get you. Go back to class and try to focus.” WOW… thanks mom for caring about me. I hung up the phone before she said anything else. The nurse looked at me as if I danced on her ancestor’s grave.
“How much longer is this period?”
“15 more minutes, you are welcome to stay here because clearly you don’t want to be in class.”
“You heard?” She was scared of being judged right now.
“Yeah, but also when you said you broke down crying for no reason, you just experienced an anxiety attack. Have you been diagnosed with anxiety?” What’s anxiety? Is that what that was? No one ever told her what was going on with her during those times.
“No, I haven’t been diagnosed with anything. What’s anxiety?”
“Well, you might want to ask your parents to see if you have anxiety because life will get harder if you don’t understand it early.” So this nurse isn’t going to tell her what anxiety is? Great! Thanks nurse!
“Okay, I will talk to them about it. What about standing still for 10 minutes straight?”
“I have no idea, that’s just strange.” There’s the judgment she knew she was going to get. She heard the bell ring.
