Today was the day, the day she proved her mother wrong for ever doubting her love of music, but also for doubting her for wanting to be a singer.
Luna hardly got sleep that night because she was thinking of all the crazy things that could go wrong during the day. All she wanted was to find out if she could do it or not. She felt like she couldn’t do it. When she got into class, Oliver was already at his desk. He was wearing his outfit already, while she was wearing the only dress she owned. She was extremely nervous to be singing in front of people, but what was scarier was that she didn’t know if she could do it.
The auditions were right after lunch; she had to make sure that drank nothing that wasn’t water. It wasn’t her brightest move because then it made her nerves worse, which made her go to the bathroom more and more.
She was watching time pass as she was in the cafeteria with Kennedy, because she made a deal with her sister’s teacher to let them sit together since they had the same lunch period. She couldn’t stop shaking her legs, but she wasn’t trying to ignore Kennedy.
“5th graders, it’s time to clean up.” She felt her heart stop. She was more scared. Time was moving fast this time. She felt like she was about to step into a different universe and never look back on her life.
“Anyone going to audition for the talent show? Please step outside now.” Oliver was quick to get out of his seat. Luna was fighting with herself to get up, more like fighting to even move at that point. She felt frozen, but Oliver came over to her and pulled her out of her seat.
“Is this everyone?” Looking around, it was Oliver, Luna, 2 other girls from their class, and a guy for the other 5th grade class. She could feel her entire brain was turning into sheer chaos because she didn’t think this was going to happen.
As the 5 of them followed the teacher to the auditorium, Luna could automatically feel her nerves kicking in. She was extremely nervous. She could feel her stomach having backflips.
“Girlie, are you okay? You look pale. Are you going to be sick?”
“No, I don’t know if I’m okay, but it is going to be okay in the end. I just have to get this over with. I am just scared, more than scared… I feel like I am going to pass out at any point now.” With the fact that she looked pale, but it’s weird knowing that she couldn’t see her tan face turning to a shade of white.
“Catch a breath. You are going to be okay. You are an amazing singer. You are one of the few best singers I know. That is saying a lot because we sing in the chorus with a bunch of talented people, but none of them are compared to you. You can do this girlie, I believe in you. Your friends believe in you, hopefully your family believes in you.”
“HA! Funny! Oh wait, I forgot to laugh. Oliver, my parents don’t believe in me, and my biggest evidence on that matter is when I asked my mother to help me with my decision on what song I was going to even sing in this audition, and she told me that there was no point and that I should stay focused on my schoolwork.”
“Well, if that is the case. You know I believe in you, and that is all that matters in my eyes. Hopefully, it is the only thing that matters in your eyes.” Wow… that line shocked her, then again him saying that just made her heart explode. Now she knew she could do this audition, even if she made it or not, it wouldn’t matter. The only thing that would matter is that she tried, and that is very great.
“Who wants to audition first? Just know that whenever someone is on the stage, we thought it would be nice to have all the other students leave, so then if someone has stage fright, they can deal with it their way.” Luna realized that she wasn’t singing in front of everyone, but just the 2 teachers. She still had a bit of anxiety in her, but she knew she would have a bit of happiness in her soul now.
After all the other kids went, she knew she was next at this point. Oliver was literally the first person to go because he was excited and he knew that if he did it first, then he could ask if he could stay to watch her; they only agreed because she was shaking to where it was noticeable to the eye.
