What Could Go Wrong? cont.

“Luna, come here real quick.” Her mom patted the seat next to her on the couch. Luna put her bag on the floor next to her feet.
“What’s going on?” Scared! So Scared!
“I got a call from your dad earlier today.” Oh god! Luna hasn’t even spoken to her dad for close to a year now, ever since the Christmas issue.
“Oh? Is he okay?” Yes, even if she didn’t talk to her dad but she still cared about his health and other stuff like that.
“He’s sad right now, he wanted to tell you this news, but he didn’t know you were at school so he told me the news. I had to make sure I told you before you saw the news online.” What news? Clearly, it has to be bad news, which makes things worse.
“Why is he sad? Is he okay?” This is making her more nervous.
“He is going to be, but I should let you know that grandpa passed away last night.” My grandpa? Oh no! I hope abuela is okay? Why would dad be upset that abuelo died?
“How is Abuela handling it all? Do we need to go to New York and be by her side?” All good questions.
“No, Luna. It’s your dad’s dad that died, that;s why your dad is sad. He wants you to call him. I told him that I would let you decide on calling him, especially since he hasn’t spoken to you since Christmas.” Luna gets a choice on calling her dad, does she even know what to say to him? She wouldn’t know how to handle him if he tried to make her feel guilty for not talking to him since Christmas, especially after the sly comment she left on his FaceBook page. She doesn’t even know what to say now.
“Do I have to talk to him? I don’t know what to say to him, but also I don’t remember much about grandpa, am I supposed to be sad or something?” Good point! She went through her memories but she couldn’t put a face to grandpa, also… her dad never spoke about his dad which made things worse when questioning if she was supposed to be sad or not.
“You don’t have to talk to him, you don’t have to be sad either. I realize that you don’t remember him because I don’t think he was around when you were little or even when you were born.” Great! So Luna had to be sad for a guy that was never around in her life. She didn’t feel sad because she doesn’t know him.
“Why does dad want to talk to me about it?” She didn’t want to talk to dad unless he was going to say sorry for lying straight to her face.
“He probably wants to see how you are taking the news, I don’t know why but like I said you don’t have to talk to him.” She didn’t want to talk to him, but she wanted to know what he would say to her.
“I’ll talk to him. I just want to know what he is going to say to me.” Can she act like a sad kid? She didn’t know but she was willing to try because she didn’t need any guilt coming her way.
“If you want, you can have him on speaker so I can help you if he does something dumb.” Tempting, very tempting but she knew she needed to do this alone.
“No, I can handle him. Can I use your phone to call him? I don’t want him knowing my number yet.”
“Here, if he starts making you cry, just hand me the phone, okay?” Seems like a good idea, she didn’t know what he would say to her or worse what he wouldn’t say to Luna.
“Okay.” Her mom handed her the phone, Luna looked at the contact “Blake,” just seeing his name made Luna’s blood boil a little. She pressed the call button just to get it over with, she didn’t care anymore.
