She couldn’t help but smile looking at him waking up. She looked at the Christmas tree and saw everything, she broke down crying on her knees. She couldn’t handle the fact that she was stuck constantly choosing between her mom and dad, she loved them both but she knew they both couldn’t stand each other. She had no friends that had this issue, she was thinking about everyone and she became more alone because she was crying more about all the happy families her friends have. The most they can relate is the fights but it never turns into calling the cops or anything close to what she deals with.
She got up, cleaned her face off and started making herself something to eat. She looked in the fridge and tried to figure out what to have, she decided to try and make eggs without any help. She looked at everything she would need first online because she was scared to mess something up. Luckily, she heard a knock on the door again. She was way too nervous to turn on the stove when she didn't know what to do with the ingredients. She looked through the window, she saw Officer Collins and Officer Morgan. She opened the door.
“Hello?”
“Hey, so we spoke with your mom just now. She asked us to ask if you wanted to go to her office if you felt weird with us watching the apartment.” She thought about it, but she couldn’t figure out if she wanted to do that but she knew that Kennedy was there with her today.
“No, I am fine. I will send her a text about that, thank you for asking. I was wondering if either of you know how to make eggs correctly?” She wanted to ask her mom several times to learn how to cook but every time she would watch she was confused because there were never any measurements. Her mom would eyeball her measurements, it made things confusing. Both Officer Collins and Morgan looked at each other and then looked back at Luna.
“Do you want help cooking eggs?”
“Yes please, the only reason is I know how to boil eggs but when it comes to making scrambled eggs I don’t know how because I don’t know when to start scrambling or how much spice is too much.”
“Okay, we will stay here with you and keep an eye on you.” They came in calmly and took off their jackets since the apartment was warm.
“Would either of you want coffee? I was taught how to use Keurig with the cups and we have creamer and sugar.”
“Sure kiddo, I’ll have a cup of joe.” Cup of joe? Was that a way to call coffee? Must have been because Officer Collins said it jokingly. Luna grabbed a pretty mug, and a K Cup, grabbed the creamer and sugar just in case he wanted to add some. She made him a “cup of joe,” she looked at him to see if she did it correctly.
“This is good, you can work in a coffee shop with how good this tastes. Wanna try it Morgan?”
“Thanks Collins but I am good.” Luna couldn’t help but smile while hearing the compliment. Officer Morgan came over to Luna to help her with the measurements of the spices. Luna was scared if she put too much or too little of everything. She heard the door unlocking, which meant that her mom was home for lunch. She just sees her daughter with two police officers in the kitchen area having breakfast.
“Wow no wonder I wasn’t getting a response about coming to my job. Are they keeping you good company? Are you also being a good host?”
“Yes, I am. I offered coffee and I was told my cup of coffee was good and I am trying to understand how to measure spices to make scrambled eggs.”
“Well I am glad they are here. I was going to drag you but clearly I don’t need to, I will come back later to check on you, okay?”
“Okay.” She could tell her mom was calmer knowing that the officers were in the house and not in the house. She wanted to stay home, because going with her mom to the job would make her more scared to come home to see her dad there waiting for her. Her mom left and we continued with the learning lesson. In the end, Officer Morgan helped make the eggs for Luna, herself, and Officer Collins. Luna wanted to get to know them since they were watching her.
“So about the advice that Officer Morgan gave you.”
“Well, all she said was that boys are dumb. Which is the best advice I could hear.” Officer Morgan snickered under her breath, while Officer Collins was making the funniest confused face he had.
“That was the advice you gave a child, Morgan? Remind me not to let my kids near you.” We all were laughing, she could see someone on the porch from the couch. She recognized who it was.
