When they got to the library, the first people she saw were Oliver’s family. Justin jumped into her arms, knowing that he was allowed to do it even if she was wearing a pretty dress.
“That’s a pretty dress, don’t you think so, Oliver?” Emma knew exactly what she was trying to do by saying that question.
“She always looked like a princess in my eyes and she knows that.” Wow! Credit was due where credit is deserved. She put Justin back on the floor and just felt her face slowly get red. Luna was stuck in the worst spot because she had to calm and remind herself that she was in public and that her parents were there too. She looked at Oliver. The most she could do to get back at him was to punch his arm. She turned around; she saw her dad.
“Dad!” Luna jumped over to her dad because she was happy that he was there. Even if he was there with his red puffy pirate, she was just glad to see him without the witch. Luna gave her dad a hug to avoid him seeing her blushing, thanks to Oliver.
“Well, someone is happy to see her dad. You look amazing, darling. We picked out the right dress for your special occasion.” She wasn’t that happy, but she’ll let him have this moment because this was his first time at her school. She turned around; Luna immediately saw Laurissa and hugged her tightly. Laurissa whispered into Luna’s ear, “you are blushing so much, can I guess why?” We both start laughing because she knows that if she asked Luna out loud, she wouldn’t say who. She’d just point in Oliver’s direction with an enormous smile on her face.
“What’s so funny?” We both forgot her dad was there.
“I’ll tell you later, Blake. Did you give her the gift yet?” Gift? Luna wasn’t expecting a gift. She was worried it was going to be childish.
“Right, one second.” He was struggling to get a box out of his pocket. He was struggling because he was wearing his tight pants. When he got the box out, he handed it to Luna as if she knew what it was. She opened the box to see a locket. Luna questioned how her dad knew she’d been wanting a locket because she never told him or Laurissa.
“Do you like it? You can put a photo of us and one with Paige.” There it is. Making it about him, she didn’t want to put Paige in it. Luna was going to put a photo of her and Kennedy.
“I love it, thank you so much.” She did love the necklace, it was something that she always wanted, but she wasn’t a fan of being told who was going to be in it.
“Let’s take some photos of you with people. How about that kid?” As her dad pointed directly at Oliver. He must have seen her talking to him before they got in. Luna’s heart was pounding. She could hear it over everything.
“Let me see if he wants to take a photo first.”
Luna went over to Oliver. His eyes always lit up when he saw her. She could see it herself now. She mouthed the words ‘Say no.’ He looked at her, confused. “Hi Oliver, my dad was wondering if you wanted to take a photo with me?” He had his evil smile showing, which meant he would take a photo and try to talk to her dad.
“I’d love to take a photo with you. Do you mind if my mom also takes a photo of us too?” Luna knew she had to be nice, but before she could say anything; her dad answered for her, which threw Oliver off. We both looked at each other and knew that we shouldn’t touch each other because it would make us both turn red and then we would have to explain some stuff. They stood 5 inches apart, just to be on the safe side. They also chose to stand apart, because they both wanted to hold each other’s hand.
After taking that photo, she knew that she needed to find her mom as well to get more photos taken. As she was looking up around she couldn’t see where her mom was. She tried not to focus on where anyone was because she wanted to just relax after walking up and down the stage with the heels. The moment she felt like she could breathe, Luna’s dad kept asking her to take more photos with people. Luna saw the teacher that was her “boss” for both the tv station and the safety patrol. He came over to take a photo with her because she was happy that she was able to work with the TV station on such short notice. She found her mom, she gave her a huge hug. She turned around and Laurissa and her dad were gone. Not surprising that her dad left without saying bye.
Marc wanted to take photos of Luna with Mrs. Lewis and other important teachers. Everyone was happy to take more photos because the teachers recognized Marc from the parent teacher conference. Each teacher asked who was the gentleman that was with Luna for the first set of photos. My mom told them that it was her dad. Mrs. Lewis specifically was shocked to see Luna’s dad in person.
When we decided to leave, she turned around and waved at Oliver knowing that she would see him in a different school with people that didn't know them and the drama behind them. The car ride home was eerie, she didn’t know why no one was talking. Luna could hear the murmurs of her dad being late and then taking Luna first. Then she heard Laurissa’s name, which meant they were mad that she came which she didn’t care because out of all the parents that came, Luna was happy that Laurissa was there. She would have been happier if Sammy was there, but she knew that someone needed to stay home for the boys. They went to a celebratory lunch before having to go home to change for Kennedy’s graduation.
They went to Kennedy’s graduation acting as if Luna’s graduation wasn’t a few hours earlier. She didn’t believe that her parents were that good at acting like Luna didn’t exist… yet.
