3 Parents 1 Event cont.

As she walked in, everyone was already dressed up as well, which made Luna feel like she could fit in with the entire class. As she sat down in her seat, Oliver was blushing. She wanted to ask, but she could tell it was because of how pretty she looks.
“Hey weirdo, did you put your tie on yourself?” Luna had to start the conversation, or she’d be dealing with an awkward morning. He smiled as he was looking at his tie.
“Actually girlie, yes. I tied my tie myself. I am actually proud of myself for doing it without my mom, but I have to say this. You look absolutely beautiful, princess.” There goes Luna’s face. She could feel herself getting warmer by the seconds. Oliver knew exactly how Luna would react to say it just like that.
“I’m not just a princess, I am a queen that can kick your butt. So shut up.” They were both laughing. She needed Oliver more than she thought. He reminded her she was beautiful, even for her size. He also reminded her she was stronger than she looked. Her heart melts when she thinks about how much she likes him. Hearing him call her princess, she couldn’t help but smile for the rest of the day.
Before he could respond, Mrs. Lewis started class. “Alright class, are you ready for this amazing moment? I’m proud of every single one of you. We should do one more class time before going to the auditorium. What do you guys think?” The class screamed yes, Mrs. Lewis always made learning fun.
“Okay, class. With a raise of your hand, what was your favorite part of this year?” Luna didn’t know what to respond with. There were so many choices. From seeing the president swearing into office to meeting everyone in this class. Oh! There was also the time that we had a field trip to a juvenile detention center. Luna laughed to herself because she remembered that day too well. She waved at the weird guy in one of the cells, and she thought about how Lucas was like that guy at one point. Luna immediately raised her hand.
“Yes, Luna, what was your favorite part of this year?”
“Getting to be in this class. When I got here, I was scared because I started as the new kid to getting switched to a whole new class. Now, I have lifelong friends being switched into your class, Mrs. Lewis.” Luna knew she tugged at a heart string because she saw Mrs. Lewis tearing up in front of everyone. Luna didn’t want to make her cry. She spoke honestly about her favorite part of the year.
“Well, thank you Luna. That was a good answer. Anyone else?” When she looked at her desk mates, they all looked touched. She didn’t realize that she made several people tear up. Karol was trying not to cry.
“Good job girlie. Making people cry on a day that our parents should be crying. What do you have to say for yourself?” She felt bad. She didn’t know that it was going to affect everyone this much. She started thinking about everything that did happen this year being in this school. She knew this year was fun, but too many bad things happened that Luna was ready for the next chapter.
After everyone who wanted to speak said their favorite parts, Mrs. Lewis told us to get ready to go to the auditorium. We got in line. Oliver stood next to little Patrick, which meant we weren’t sitting next to each other in the auditorium. Luna couldn’t tell if that was a good thing or a bad thing. She took her braids out and her hair did exactly what she wanted it to look like, perfect waves.
The auditorium looked normal, except for the fact that the chorus stands were out. She remembered that the chorus teacher said they were singing at graduation, which meant some fourth graders would be here. It’s not like Luna didn’t like the fourth graders, but she didn’t want one of them saying something about her and Oliver. Luna only focused on the big event. She saw her mom and stepdad, but she didn’t see her dad anywhere. Marc came over and took some photos of Luna sitting in her seat before it started.
Five minutes before starting, Luna is laughing with her friends and she sees her dad’s red pirate shirt. She hated that shirt, but she saw Laurissa wearing a casual dress and a denim jacket. They spotted her immediately, so all Luna could mouth was GO FIND A SEAT. She was annoyed that they were almost late, but she was just glad that they were there.
As it started, they wanted to start with achievements we earned throughout the year. Some achievements shocked her. She was being given “Perfect Attendance,” “Future Mathematician,” and “Most Friendly.” Luna luckily had minor troubles getting up on the stage, but she knew the expression, “pain is beauty.” She had a smile on her face the entire time. She didn’t care about all the issues that were going to show up because Laurissa was there. She knew her mom would not be happy about it, but she didn’t care. As the time passes, Luna goes up a few more times and then she has to go up the risers three times to sing with the chorus. She stood next to Oliver. Every time they stood next to each other, even for a second made her feel like she was on Cloud 9.
“Alright! Class of 2009! You did it, congratulations!” Luna heard that and knew she was done with this craziness. The Class of 2009 got up and headed toward the library to meet with their parents and take photos altogether. Luna didn’t know who to stay near. She didn’t know if she should stay near her dad or her mom.
