The day of the talent show the school was louder than usual, then again everyone was excited because they got to get out of class early for the talent show. Luna wasn’t ready for the talent show because she offered to help with the talent show backstage people. Which meant that she was working the curtains and making sure that she didn’t hurt anyone with the curtains. The day felt slower for Luna because she didn’t want to deal with the talent show she just wanted today to feel like a normal day.
That would not happen.
The day started normally with seeing Oliver. She would have thought he was excited to show off his tap dance moves.
“Hey dork, what’s with the sad face? I thought you would be excited to perform in front of everyone.”
“I’m not performing. They didn’t want me to perform.”
“What?! That makes no sense. I will hurt them for hurting you. The only person who may hurt you is me!”
“Why only you?”
“Because it’s me. Are you surprised by that line?”
“No, not really. Thanks Luna, but it’s fine. I am working the curtains for the show now.”
“Hey, at least you have a buddy. I am also working the curtains during the show. Do you know which side you’re on?”
“No, they never told me. I will find out later.” He looked broken on the inside. It shows that he tried acting strong for everyone around us, but she knew that, that news devastated him. With both of them being quieter than usual, John and Karol didn’t know how to react to them. They were used to Luna and Oliver arguing or sounding like an old married couple, but since they were silent, there was nothing that either John or Karol could say to get Luna and Oliver to talk.
As time went by, she didn’t think about anything and just kept thinking about how the day would keep passing by slowly. She could feel herself going insane. She knew that today was supposed to be the biggest day of her life, but this was a day she wanted to forget most of all.
“Luna, why do you look sad?” Kennedy could tell that Luna was having a horrible day at school.
“I just don’t feel good, that’s it.”
“Then go home.”
“I can’t go home. Mother will get mad at me for asking if I can go home early. I will just wait until after school.” After lunch, Luna was asked out of her classroom to rehearse the entire talent show for later in the day. She wished she could just make time go by faster, but she couldn’t. At least in her head, she was glad that she had Oliver by her side, so then she wasn’t alone. With Oliver being silent all day, Luna could physically feel his pain, which killed her inside. She wanted to help him feel better, or at least make him smile, but all her usual tactics weren’t working on him.
“How are you feeling?”
“Like I shouldn’t be here. What about you?”
“I don’t know. I have been trying to rush today, but every time I feel like time is going by fast, it is going as slow as a turtle. I just don’t want to be here right now.”
“Should we just set ourselves up for safety patrol, since we are just pulling a rope up and down?”
“Sure, why not?” As we left to get set up for safety patrol, Luna saw all the other safety patrols getting ready to help the younger kids. Luna headed over to her section near Kennedy’s class. She would walk past Kennedy’s classroom and make a weird face to make the kids laugh. She was extremely stressed, but she couldn’t show her stressed feeling because if the kids saw her stressed then they wanted to know what was going on with her. As she walked the kids to the first stop, she could almost feel herself going insane because she wanted to just go home after dropping them off, but she knew she couldn’t. She knew that this day would take longer and slower than she originally wanted. It was killing her how slowly the day was going, but she knew that once it was over she would end up coming back to school to work backstage again.
“Luna, what’s wrong?” Kennedy was looking at her, and even she knew there was no point in hiding it. She thought again about it… she didn’t want her sister to see her upset, so she played it off as if nothing was wrong.
“Nothing, Kennedy. I am just tired and I wish we could go home right away, but I have to go back to school for the talent show.” Which wasn’t wrong either. It’s not like Luna was lying to Kennedy’s face, but she wasn’t being honest with her either? She looked across the street to see the other safety patrol students coming to bring the other younger students over to the after school recreation center. She saw Oliver talking with his little brother, Justin. They looked like they were having a serious conversation. She would lift him off the ground and tell him he was the only man in her life. She loved Justin as if he was her own little brother. As she was looking at Justin and Oliver, she automatically knew that she had hardcore feelings for him.
