When she went out to walk Chewie, she saw someone familiar, it was Derek Amber. He looked like he was in his own world, which was good for her because she didn’t want to deal with anyone from school until the new year.
“Hey” She didn’t realize but Aaron was right behind her.
“Oh! Hi! How are you?” Stay cool Luna, don’t freak out because they are pretty much surrounding her.
“I’m good, you are one of the 6th graders on our bus, right?”
“Yeah, why does that matter?”
“Doesn’t the bus driver look creepy? My brother Derek and I are trying to see what makes him tick, want to join?” She was invited to hang out with the Amber brothers, they have a reputation of causing chaos. They wanted her to be a part of it all, she was curious as to why they wanted her to help out.
“I would but I need to know why I should join you guys?”
Right there Derek decided to chime in with his rude ways.
“I told you she was too chicken to join us, let’s just ask someone else already.”
“I’m not chicken, I just don’t want to be thrown under the bus for something you, the idiot did. I get into my own kind of trouble, I don’t need your trouble added to mine. Thanks.” Snapback was strong for Luna, she wished someone else was there to hear that line. Aaron intervened before Derek could be a jerk.
“No, you won’t be thrown under the bus, we just want to have fun with everyone on the bus and you look like the most fun.”
“Fine, I will join your fun but the moment the fun gets us in trouble, I am disappearing.” Look at little Luna negotiating for some fun and also making friends in the complex. Chewie even made friends with them as we were all talking. We were all having a fun time, chatting it up while I finished walking Chewie.
“Bye boys, I will see you guys next year at the stop.”
“Bye Luna!” They said in unison. She was happy to make more friends, especially since they are in her complex. When Luna went upstairs, she felt proud of herself and realized she wouldn’t have been able to have that moment with them if she was with her dad already. The rest of the evening was uneventful where she was questioning when she was leaving to deal with the nonsense that was her dad.
“Hey mom, what time is he picking me up tomorrow?”
“He said early in the morning, so if he gets here while you’re walking Chewie, we can swap places and I will finish his walk. Sounds like a plan?”
“Yeah, sounds good.” For the rest of the night, Luna stayed in her room just watching Disney movies.
The next morning was boring, when she remembered her mom said early in the morning, what her dad meant was around 10 - 11 AM. She was waiting for him to just leave. She had breakfast with mom, Marc, and Kennedy; she could tell that mom and Marc were concerned about Luna because Luna hardly spoke. She was quietly walking Chewie, quietly doing everything. She hardly spoke as if she was setting her own mentality up to deal with her dad.
“Luna, your dad is here!”
“Coming!!”
“I’ll be back next year.” To make the joke because she knows she won’t see them until after New Years Day.
“See you next year.” She hugged her mom and went to her dad and gave him a hug.
