As Luna floated in the lazy river alone, all she wanted to do was cry, but she knew if she did that, someone would ask her what was wrong or worse… ask where my parents were? Luna couldn’t stop thinking about what Sammy said; she knew he was angry with her dad. She was just as angry with her dad, but she couldn’t snap at him like everyone else did. All she wanted was one day of fun, one day to feel like herself. Clearly, she wasn’t allowed to do that. Luna was surrounded by all these happy families, having fun, and she was on the side of the lazy river to get out at the midway spot easier. She could already tell the fun day was going to be horrible because she knew she had to include the other kids that weren’t invited or wanted. She slowly started seeing the exit for the midway spot. She saw Sammy sitting on the stairs, waiting for Luna.
“Laurissa, there she is! Luna, come on! We are leaving Adventure Island.” Sammy reached his arm out for Luna to get a hold of him to get out. She heard that and felt more angry by her dad’s actions.
“What? Why?”
“Because Blake would rather take care of someone else’s children than his own, and I didn’t like how Lucas was looking at you when he noticed you were behind Sammy the entire time.” Just hearing his name, Luna shivered. She knew it wasn’t the worst idea, but she didn’t want to leave when they had just gotten there. Since Laurissa knew everything between Lucas and Luna, Laurissa was in protective mom mode. She didn’t want anyone harming Luna, not even her own father. Luna didn’t know what to do with herself, usually she has something up her sleeve for issues like this but she didn’t. She felt completely useless. She didn’t understand why, but sadly in her own subconscious she knew why he did it.
“What if we just avoid them while we are here? We are here and the tickets were already paid for. I would feel bad that we’d have to leave because he chose someone over me. I’m used to it, but you guys aren’t. Let’s have fun and forget about them for the day.”
“You really have grown up, haven’t you?” Sammy had this proud look in his eyes, knowing that Luna did grow up. He was proud that she was being the bigger man in this moment, and he didn’t want to let her down, either.
“Let’s go have some fun!!” As we were about to head over to the next location, she felt eyes on her. She knew that her body was hidden, but she could feel them watch her every moment. She didn’t want to turn around because she didn’t know who was looking and from where. She walked in front of Sammy instead. As we walked to the next ride, everyone lightened up about the situation. Luna splashed Jonah and Parker while walking through the little pools. We were all laughing, which made us decide to stay in the wave pool section. Jonah, Parker and Luna had to wear vests in the wave pool for safety purposes. She was finally ready to go into the wave pool. She looks around and notices Lucas already in the wave pool. She knew it was going to be rough if he knew she was in the same place. She looked at Laurissa, trying to figure out how to help Jonah into his safety vest. She watched them realize that the size for Jonah is too big for him. It made Luna crack up. She couldn’t stop laughing because her nerves were getting to her as well as seeing the struggles.
“Who are you laughing at?”
“I’m laughing at you. What are you going to do about it?” The moment that Luna said that, Sammy swept her off her feet and ran into the pool. She was laughing so much that she couldn’t breathe. She could see Laurissa, Parker and Jonah trying to run up behind Sammy to tackle him, but he took us to a spot where no one could save us because they classified us as tiny people next to Sammy. Luna felt better about herself. She knew that Sammy and Laurissa were going to stay true to their word of keeping her safe. She loved them so much. Sammy took Luna back to everyone else to have more fun; she could feel eyes watching her every move. She didn’t want to turn around because she didn’t want to know who wanted her attention so badly. She also had an idea of who it could have been. An hour into the wave pool, she heard her name being called.
